Faruq Abbas is the Managing Partner of Abdu-Salaam Abbas & Co. with a stellar reputation as a distinguished legal expert in dispute resolution. In 2022, the Chief Justice of Nigeria appointed him as a Notary Public for Nigeria. With a strong focus on commercial litigation, labor and employment law, property law, debt recovery, alternative dispute resolution, data protection, and family law, Faruq is a well-rounded legal professional.
Faruq frequently appears before different levels of the Nigerian Court system and has garnered praise for his involvement in notable cases, many of which have been reported in reputable law publications such as Nigeria Weekly Law Reports (NWLR), Commercial Law Reports Nigeria (CLRN), Nigerian Labour Law Reports, Appellate Court Employment Law Report (ACELR), and Law Pavilion Electronic Law Reports (LPELR). He is also a recognized Trademark Agent and a member of esteemed organizations such as the Society for Corporate Governance Nigeria, the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (UK) Nigeria Branch, the Lagos Court of Arbitration (LCA), the ICC Young Arbitrators Forum (YAF), and the Young ICCA (International Council for Commercial Arbitration).
Faruq has established himself as a prolific author, having written numerous scholarly articles on a variety of topics. Recently, he made a significant contribution to the book titled “Emerging Jurisprudence on Privacy and Data Protection in Nigeria” by co-authoring a chapter on “A Critical Analysis of Consent in Data Privacy Claims in Selected Cases.”
Beyond his impressive litigation practice, Faruq provides legal guidance to numerous high-net-worth individuals and companies in their business operations. He has successfully represented clients in complex real estate transactions across various parts of Lagos State, handling the acquisition of properties and registration of title documents at both the Lands Registry in Alausa, Lagos State, and the Federal Lands Registry in Ikoyi, Lagos State.
In his leisure time, Faruq indulges his passion for chess and enjoys immersing himself in autobiographies and biographies of accomplished business and political leaders. He also makes it a point to regularly visit his ancestral hometown, Afaake, in Ejigbo Local Government, Osun State, where he actively participates in community development activities. In 2019, Faruq ran for office to represent Ejigbo State Constituency at the Osun State House of Assembly, but unfortunately, he was not successful. However, he did serve as the Chief of Staff to the Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adewale Egbedun, from June 2023 till 13 December 2023. During his tenure, Faruq made significant contributions to improving the efficiency of the Speaker’s office and drafted two important legislations.
Faruq has been featured on several major media platforms including Channels TV, Wazobia TV, Naija Info FM Lagos, Top FM Lagos, Lagos Talks FM, Radio Nigeria and Rave FM and OSBC FM in Osogbo. During these appearances, he has engaged in insightful discussions on a variety of topics, ranging from politics and social issues to legal matters.
